Build the Route Before the Sun Comes Up

Every morning, thousands of UPS drivers jump into perfectly loaded trucks, turn the key, and hit the road. That seamless execution is only possible because of the UPS Preload Package Handler. Operating during the very early morning hours (typically 3:00 AM to 8:00 AM), you are the architect of the delivery route. You will stand inside the back of the brown package cars, catching packages off a high-speed conveyor belt and loading them sequentially based on the driver's route map. If you want a fast-paced, intensely physical part-time job that provides incredible union benefits and frees up your entire day, this is the most critical warehouse role at UPS.

Preload Operations

  • High-Speed Package Sorting: Read alphanumeric routing codes on packages flying down the conveyor belt. You must quickly identify which packages belong to the 3 or 4 trucks you are assigned to load.
  • Sequential Truck Loading: This is a game of high-stakes Tetris. You must physically load the packages onto the specific interior shelves of the package car in the exact order the driver will deliver them, ensuring the heaviest boxes are safely secured on the floor.
  • Extreme Physical Conditioning: Skip the gym forever. You will be continuously twisting, bending, reaching, and lifting packages weighing up to 70 pounds for 4 to 5 hours straight in a fast-paced, loud, industrial environment.
  • Quality Control: Identify leaking, crushed, or mislabeled packages and pull them off the line for the problem-solve team before they are loaded onto the delivery truck.

The Part-Time Union Advantage

The UPS Preload position is legendary for its benefits. Even as a part-time employee, after a brief waiting period, you receive the same zero-premium, top-tier medical, dental, and vision insurance as full-time drivers. You are protected by the Teamsters union, receive regular wage increases, and get access to the "Earn and Learn" program, which provides massive tuition assistance for college students. Most importantly, Preload is the primary waiting list to become a highly-paid UPS Delivery Driver.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old. No driving license is required for this warehouse role. You must possess extreme physical stamina and athletic endurance to handle continuous heavy lifting up to 70 lbs. You must have the discipline to wake up and work extremely early morning hours (e.g., 3:00 AM starts). A reliable work ethic and ability to pass a background check are mandatory.
